Face to face with the new Abarth 500e

We had to wait until 2023 to meet the first electric Abarth. This is the Abarth 500e, which began its commercialization with the version of the Scorpionissima launch, fully equipped, sold out in a few weeks, despite its price. With the advent of conventional versions, the Abarth 500e and 500e Turismo (in hatchback and cabrio bodies) we have been able to see first-hand the new electrified scorpion.

In the first electric in the history of Abarth there is no lack of sporty details. We see it in details such as the Abarth typography in dark titanium gray (on the hood, front and rear) or the new electrified logo of the scorpion firm on the side, next to the door. The new front bumper makes the car bolder and more aggressive.

We liked the design of the 17-inch wheels, the sporty lines of the side skirt, the rear diffuser inserts and the new matt gray mirror caps. There are five colors to choose from: white Antidoreblack venomred Adrenalin and the new green Acid and blue poison.

On board there is no lack of sportiness either. Unlike a Fiat 500, the dark environment dominates the protagonist, there are no shortage of sports seats, a black vinyl steering wheel… and two screens, one for the 10.25-inch Uconnect multimedia system and the 7-inch instrument panel with exclusive Abarth graphics. And when the car is turned on or off, a rock guitar tone is played inside the cabin.

If you choose the Abarth 500e Turismo you have slightly larger wheels, leather and Alcantara steering wheel, heated front seats, wireless charging base, rear view camera, blind spot detector…. and especially the sound. The sound of an Abarth gasoline engine inspired by the famous Record Monza exhaust is reproduced by the JBL audio system with seven speakers (2 tweeters, two midwoofers, two rear door speakers and 1 subwoofer), plus an 8-channel amplifier.

And running, it’s an Abarth. It is faster than its gasoline version. Accelerate from 20 to 40 km/h 50% faster. And it gains 20 km/h more in just 1.5 seconds (one second less than combustion). From 60 to 100 km/h it also takes one second less. And that with an electrical architecture that allows great driving dynamism, with a quicker response, better entry into curves and greater turning and exit speeds.

Yeah, but it’s electric and the battery doesn’t last long. Of course, with the 42 kWh battery it is not a car for long trips, but it is exciting to drive. Approves 265 km between charges and then you can recharge to 85 kW in direct current (80% of the range in just 35 minutes) and continue enjoying your driving modes:

  • Tourism: Smoother acceleration and less power to be efficient (one pedal driving, to recover more energy).
  • Scorpion Street: Superior performance, with more regenerative braking (also allows braking without even touching the right pedal).
  • Scorpion Track Maximum performance without the One Pedal Driving function.

In addition, Free2move eSolutions offers products and services such as eSolutions Charging (more than 450,000 charging points throughout Europe) or the eProWallbox, a family of home charging devices, with powers between 7.4 and 22 kW, ideal for all uses.
