Will 33 arrive in Canada? Fernando Alonso, the fastest in the race pace simulations

There are reasons to dream of a victory for Fernando Alonso in Montreal. At least, that’s what the numbers say. The Asturian fue the fastest in the race simulation which most of the drivers did in the second free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Alonso rolled at an average pace of 1:17:5, one tenth faster than max verstappen and Charles Leclerc. In addition, the Spanish showed much greater consistency than Dutch and Monegasquebeing able to improve his times in the final part of the session, which shows that the Aston Martin once again has less tire degradation than its rivals.

Gasly, the big surprise

The fourth position was signed by Pierre Gasly who showed a really competitive pace. The Frenchman had an average pace of 1:17:7, only two tenths slower than Alonso.

However, it was not a good Friday for Alpine, as Gasly suffered a broken clutch that left him out of the first free practice sessions, while Esteban Oconbroke the gearbox and could not complete complete the second session, so the shadow of la lack of reliability threatens the French team again.

The pace of Lando Norris also surprised. The Brit was sixth fastest, half a second behind Alonso and ahead of ‘Checo’ Pérez, which shows that the leap forward that McLaren gave in Monaco and Barcelona is a reality.

The Mercedes are still a mystery

The big question is where are the Mercedes. Despite Lewis Hamilton and George Russell setting the two fastest laps of the session, they did so on soft tyres.

The star team did not test the pace with the medium tire, so there are no references of what his speed will be in the racealthough if they maintain the performance shown in Barcelona, will be a threat to Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin.
