Penn Badgley has returned to the role of Joe, the protagonist of the Netflix series ‘you’, for the fourth season although he now adopts the name of John. The first five episodes are already broadcast (the next five will arrive on March 9) and taking advantage of the premiere, the actor spoke in his ‘Podcrushed’ podcast about the series and revealed that before making it talked to creator Sera Gamble about having fewer sex scenes.
In a conversation with the creator, she asked to stop doing intimate scenes for the new season: “My wish would be not to do any scenes.” However, being aware that this was not possible, she asked to what extent these scenes could be reduced. The protagonist of ‘You’, married since 2017 to Domino Kirke, He said that the reason is in the importance he gives to “fidelity in all relationships”: “Fidelity is very important to me in all relationships, and especially in my marriage”, he said. The actor who rose to fame with ‘Gossip Girl’ before ‘You’ wants to take a step in his career towards roles in which romance is not the main thing and in fact, he assures that it is something he has been thinking about for a long time.
After explaining the reasons for his request, Badgley said that he had actually made the decision before the series, but that he had “never commented on it in public”. Even so, the actor is aware that he embarked on the series and that he signed the contract and that “you cannot take this aspect of the DNA out of the concept of the series” and therefore asked to reduce these scenes as much as possible. The romantic component is very important in the series since the protagonist desperately and obsessively seeks love throughout the series. Even so, the response from creator Sera Gamble and the team was “very positive”, as the actor also explains in the podcast. “They appreciated my candor and also that I was reasonable and they came back with a considerable reduction.”
