Second change of training format of the season in MotoGP. The first came with the introduction of the sprint format, which brought a complete change to the weekend. This new change created some new problems in the format that will eventually be readjusted after Ducati’s yes.
With the arrival of the sprint format, Friday became a ‘mini classification’ in which teams and drivers had to go find the time from the beginning, something that led most manufacturers to the head. Aleix Espargaro revealed that everyone was in favor of introducing a non-timed test on Friday to get the bike ready, something that only Ducati was against.
And as reported by ‘Motorsport’, the Borgo Panigale factory has finally given in and from the next Grand Prix, which is held in Silverstone, this new version of the format will be introduced.
The change will occur only in the MotoGP category and on Fridays. The morning training session, the first, will be free for 45 minutes, while in the afternoon the drivers will play their way to Q2 with a one-hour practice session. The rest of the weekend will remain the same.
This is the new MotoGP training format
– Free practice 1 (FP1) of 45 minutes
– Practical training (PR) of 60 minutes, which will be timed to enter Q2
– Free practice 2 (FP2) of 30 minutes
– Qualification Q1 of 15 minutes
– Qualification Q2 of 15 minutes
– Sprint Race
– 10 minute Warm Up
