He was going to win the stage and stopped to help his partner

In sport, the main objective is to win, but there are many who prioritize sportsmanship over that. One of them has proven to be Carlos Sainzthat when he was riding in time to win the seventh stage of the Dakar, stood up to help his teammate Mattias Ekstrom.

‘El Matador’ started the day in second position at most stage checkpoints. Although he progressively fell off the hook until he lost a minute with the best, Sainz I was still ready to fight for the stage until reaching kilometer 200, where he stopped to help his partner Ekstrom.

The Swede is the only one of the Audi drivers who was still alive in the fight for the general classification, after the accidents yesterday of Sainz himself and Peterhansel. Therefore, the Spanish preferred to look for the good of the team and gave up a possible victory stage to help his partner repair the car, curiously damaged in the same way as Sainz’s in his accident, with a broken suspension arm.

Sainz, after what happened in the sixth stage, cannot aspire to victory in the general, but he can in the stages. However, he has prioritized the benefit of the German team, which says goodbye to the Dakar general classification with all its drivers after this latest Ekstrom accident.
