Fernando Alonso had talked in ‘L’Equipe’. The French newspaper has interviewed an Asturian driver who, after leaving Alpine to sign for Aston Martin, has found a car that is one of those few miracles that there are and have been in Formula 1. From being ninth when he signed, in the summer of 2022, he has gone on to be second best team with two podium finishes in two races… and watch out for australia.
Because in Albert Park the two-time world champion is enjoying himself. In Free Practice 2, with the medium tyre, he set almost the same time as Max Verstappen in the first test session, beating the Dutchman from Red Bull by more than six tenths.
Yes, it seems a lie. It seems like it, but it’s true. it is though not even Fernando himself believes what is happening with the green car they have created at Silverstone.
“I never would have imagined this three months ago”, Alonso tells the aforementioned half Frenchman.
And he continues: “Going to Aston Martin is probably my best move in F1. I expected a competitive car in one or two years, but to be like this in six months… It’s great.”
“In Ferrari I enjoyed a lot. We fight for titles until the end in 2010 and 2012″, Alonso insists.
Who knows if that is repeated with Aston Martin: “It’s incredible to have a car to fight for podiums. Win? Well, will need help from Red Bull… an accident, or a breakdown”.
“But we are going to remain competitive,” affirms and sentences an Alonso who is going for everything in this 2023 with the Aston Martin.
