The Platform in Defense of the Transport of Merchandise has called a new strike that will foreseeably begin at dawn from next Sunday to Monday. Everything indicates that the shortage problems of the previous call will be repeated, so it is better to be prepared.
Last March we already lived the consequences of a transport strike that lasted for 3 weeks and caused various supply problems in all sectors, from food to construction and industry. That strike was called off in April, but warning that a new conflictive situation would not be ruled out if the agreed agreements were not fulfilled. In August the strike threats were made again, but they were silenced while a new law approved on August 26 and that, according to the organizers, is still not applied. For this reason, a new transport strike is called for what is probably the most strategic date of the year, with the Christmas campaign very close.
Undoubtedly, these are the dates in which these strikes can have the most repercussions in the transport of goods. For many companies, these weeks begin the season on which they depend to maintain themselves throughout the year, as is the case with nougats, cavas, seafood, toys, etc.
Transport strike: nightmare before christmas
In a few weeks we will fully enter the time of the year with the highest consumption and this strike could cause serious problems of shortages in typical products of this season, such as toys, Christmas decorations or the most common gifts (electronics, perfumes, clothes, books…). Many of these items are supplied some time in advance to be able to meet the high demand that occurs around Christmas, and this is precisely the problem, that it is likely that even if the strike is called off before Christmas, it will already be too late for some products that will not arrive on time.
For the industry it is also a problem. Adding to the shortage of components are now the delays in the arrival of the expected chips and elements necessary to resume the retained production and be able to recover part of the lost figures.
What products are most likely to be in short supply due to the strike
As for the products that are most likely to be in short supply in the shopping basket, naturally, the main problems will be suffered by fresh and perishable productswhich will remain without leaving their production centers, as happened in the previous strike, therefore, milk, eggs, meat and fresh fish are predictably the ones that will suffer the most supply problems.
On this occasion they add to the already mentioned products typical of this time of year and related to Christmas: nougat, alcoholic beverages, seafood, toys, electronics, Christmas decoration, etc.
