After having tested it thoroughly, we have it clear. That the shapes and measurements do not lead you to think that the Nissan X-Trail is just a Qashqai with a more adventurous and familiar profile. In this generation it will reach 7 million units sold and for this it came to the market with two surnames that make it very different from the rest of family SUVs.
On one hand, the e-Power system, an interesting and innovative propulsion solution, with which you gain ride comfort almost at the level of a 100% electric car. On the other, the e-4orce tractionvery capable and that gives it that 4×4 touch that the X-Trail has had since its inception.
There are things, however, that have not convinced us so much, such as the impractical third row of seats (if you compare it with those offered by some rivals such as the Kia Sorento, it is very badly off). Nor is the capacity of the trunk to launch rockets and, above all, what has just penalized it the most is its consumption, very sensitive at high speeds. Granted it’s a big, bulky, all-wheel-drive car, but the hybrid system seems more
Its starting price, with a hybrid system, all-wheel drive and 7 seats, is 45,800 euros. Elevated and even more with the Tekna + finish that our test unit had, which makes it rise above 55,000. Competing on price with Korean rivals (Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe) the Toyota Highlander is much more expensive. So far, one of the few SUVs of this size to offer a non-plug-in hybrid powertrain.
