Associated European Motorists locates the most crowded radars of the DGT: only 50 devices of the more than 1,000 existing ones accumulated in 2022 almost 30% of the complaints.
If there is something that especially alerts drivers during a journey, be it long or short, it is the approach sign to a speed radar. Well, in Spain there are more than 1,000 fixed radars deployed by the state highway network and, thanks to AEA, we now know that with just 50 the DGT guarantees 28% of the fines (we are talking about 1,036,054 fines out of a total of 3,704,675 formulated in one year.) Thus, at least, it occurred in 2022, the last complete cycle for which data is available. In addition, this total implies an increase of no less than 21.2% compared to the complaints registered in 2021 (3,056,437.)
These DGT fines are not entitled to a discount (not even with “prompt payment”)
By communities, Andalucía (953,422 complaints), the Valencian Community (447,470) and Castilla y León (427,448) are the ones that have the most active radarswhile La Rioja (39,757), Navarra (83,231) and Asturias (83,993) are the ones with the fewest fines.
Where is the radar that fines the most in Spain
The radar that takes the most photos after a year is located at kilometer 74.7 of the A-381, to the Valdeinfierno tunnel exitin the municipality of Los Barrios (Cádiz), with a record of almost 80,000 complaints (in 2021 this radar was not even among the 50 most active.)
In addition, other radars such as those at kilometer 37 of the A-381 (Jerez – Los Barrios highway), in Alcalá de los Gazules (Cádiz); the one at kilometer 53 of the M-40, in Madrid; and the one at kilometer 42.2 of the GC-1, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, have experienced significant increases from one year to the next. In the first case, for example, it went from making 17,666 complaints to 68,321.
