Jorge Lorenzo he is three times champion of MotoGP and five times world champion, but beyond that he was always characterized by a good sensitivity when it came to detecting problems with a motorcycle and guiding the development of a factory.
That is precisely what the Majorcan who lacks so much in Honda like Yamaha, motorcycles that he rode during his years in MotoGP. In an interview with ‘GPone’, ’99’ he explained that it is currently an era of dominance for European brands.
“It is the era of European manufacturers, not Japanese. And I don’t know how long this trend will last”, commented the Spaniard.
And in reference to the crisis at Yamaha and Honda, Lorenzo attributes it to the lack of a “sensitive” test rider: “In my opinion, neither of them had a very sensitive rider to develop the bike in such a way that everyone can really ride it”.
In addition, Jorge Lorenzo highlighted that, contrary to what other riders claim, Honda did listen to his instructions to develop the bike when he was with them: “I have to say that they listened to me. We were in Japan for a week to make changes, but then I had the misfortune to fall in Assen. Without that accident, I would have continued with Honda. and with a motorcycle that would have adapted better to my characteristics”.
“When I injured my vertebrae, my mentality changed. I started to appreciate other things in life and not just motorcycles. That fall cut short my career for three or four years. More than I would have continued there”, he added about his fall in Assen 2019, at which time he decided to retire.
Regarding how long he thinks it will take the Japanese factories to pick up, he does not consider it to be something in the short term: “It is not something that is solved overnight.. It takes a lot of work and it starts with staying calm to understand what you need to keep and what you need to change on the bike.”
“That’s the job that Gigi Dall’Igna has patiently done at Ducati since he joined in 2014, gradually getting closer to the best bikes until finishing with the best of all. But this is not an easy job and it requires a lot of time. “, he concluded.
