In recent times much has been said about SEAT’s situation and the future that it holds. Cupra’s growth as an independent brand has been totally overwhelming, not even they themselves expected such an expansion. In any case, it has forced them to work on a more varied range of products and a firm commitment to electrification. Meanwhile, SEAT has become somewhat more obsolete, with more traditional and non-electrified models. That is why it is said that it could become a mobility firm in the next years.
The latest rumors speak precisely that by the end of the decade cars will disappear of SEAT and other urban mobility products will remain. They will focus on a younger audience with the Mó electric scooter and other personal mobility vehicles such as bicycles and electric scooters. In that aspect they already have the SEAT eXS, although they could be expand with some light electric quadricycle that was totally focused on commuting by city. They would always do so with an eye on the ban on combustion vehicles by the European Union by 2035.
However, it must be made clear that no decision has been made yet firm and that this could be resolved just around the turn of the decade. SEAT has guaranteed survival until at least 2028/2029 with a range that will gradually introduce partial electrification through hybrid powertrains that will give a breath of fresh air to your current models. Having an electric in the family is not contemplated at the moment, at least until 2026 according to the latest information at the manufacturer’s annual conference.
It is quite possible that the future is something like the SEAT Minimó that they presented a few years ago and that never materialized. An electric model called to compete with others such as the Renault Twizy or the Citroën Ami. It seems that the future of Cupra will be much brighter and more attractive than that of SEAT, since they already have a fairly wide range confirmed, to which the Tavascan has just been added and which will soon be completed with the Terramar and the Urban Rebel; in addition to the corresponding updates of the CUPRA León, Born and Formentor.
