It’s no surprise that Spain is below the European average in terms of electrification. It is the whiting that bites its tail, there are not too many charging points for electric cars and this, together with its high price, means that the acceptance of the technology is still low. In fact, a new study says it’s necessary multiply by 25 the number of charging points at the national level to achieve the objectives. As established in the Energy and Climate Plan, Spain has to achieve it by 2030.
Pass from the current 15,000 to 340,000 charging points that are considered necessary in just seven years is a challenge that must be taken into account. By 2030, a goal has been set to reach five million electric vehicles in the park, whose needs would not be covered by the current number of chargers. Hence the rush and the amount has to be multiplied by 25. It is clear that it is of little use for manufacturers to advance in their technologies and offer more and more electric and if a correct recharging infrastructure is not ensured.
This topic will be discussed in the IV Observatory of Sustainable Mobility of Spain, but it can already be anticipated that this new study makes some shortcomings clear. Emphasis is placed on collaboration between public administration and private companies for the development of electric mobility. The focus is also placed on large cities, which are the nerve centers where electric cars will triumph due to the limitations that appear in low emission zones. On the other hand, they warn that workers in the sector will have to adapt to more relocated flexible positions due to the progress of the sector.
They also value the impulse of the Digitization and the development of the connected and autonomous vehicle. In general, there are four axes of debate at the Observatory, which are industry, innovation, cities and the connected and autonomous vehicle. This study promoted by Ibercaja Foundation, Mobility City and Grant Thornton will have the presence of many personalities during its presentation. There will be no shortage of representatives from the Government and large car manufacturers. All united in order to promote the electric car and achieve the objectives set.
