The only existing racing Koenigsegg is sold

The Swedish brand Koenigsegg stands out for its advanced and creative engineering solutions, such as revolutionary electric motors, a model that has no transmission, and even the idea of obtaining fuel from volcanoes. All this has allowed it to be at the forefront in a very difficult segment, that of hypercars, where it has vehicles that have won various records.

But did you know that Koenigsegg thought about getting involved in motorsport? That’s right, in 2003 the brand started with the CCGT project based on the CCXR, with the hope of competing in the GT1 category. To do this, Dag Bölenius, an engineer and programmer, was appointed head of the racing program, while supercar engineer Loris Bicocchi took on the role of test driver.

The first prototype was ready for 2007, but things went wrong. The idea at that time was to build about twenty of these models to be able to approve them and thus participate in the competitions, but a few months after the prototype was presented, the FIA and the ACO changed the regulations for the GT1 Class and instead of having to build just 20 production cars over several years, manufacturers had to make 350 production cars per year, an impossible number for Koenigsegg.

This is how the Koenigsegg CCGT GT1 remained as the only testimony of the brand’s attempt to get involved in motorsports. Asleep stayed forever its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 with 591 HP mated to a sequential gearbox. However, it is hoped that with its new owner things will change.

The novelty is that this museum-worthy piece is now for sale and as you can imagine, it is not cheap. The vehicle will be auctioned during the Goodwood festival with a base of around USD 3,800,000 and is expected to easily reach figures close to USD 6,000,000.

To further increase interest, it is specified that this specimen It is in perfect state of conservation and operation, since during these years it has been kept in a room with a controlled temperature in dry and dark conditions, with two engine maintenance cycles a year, and even with its original Michelin race tires fully intact.

If whoever buys it wants to fulfill the dream of this vehicle, he has already been cleared by the Masters Historic Racing organization to compete in the Masters Endurance Legends Seriesso the experience can be complete.
