What will we see in season 4
The first trailer of the new chapters shows Otis introducing himself to his classmates from the new school with the usual awkwardness that characterizes him when saying, in addition to the fact that “he spends all day thinking about sex”, that everything he knows about the subject he learned from his mother. The new school is apparently idyllic with outdoor yoga practice, a welcoming and friendly atmosphere with the queer community and committed to the environment and well-being. Among the students there is also a popular group and, attention, a sex therapist called O, and played by Thaddea Graham (‘Doctor Who’).
As for family plots, we will find Jean (Gillian Anderson), the mother of Otis, in a darker moment because he is not having his best moment. Let’s remember that she has become a mother again and, in addition to everything that a postpartum entails, she is not going to take being a single mother again too well. On the other hand, we have the Groffs, with Adam making strides in the relationship with his father and former head of Moordale, who tries to rebuild his life and solve the problems with his family. For the first time, the series will show Cal’s non-binary character’s family life and we will meet his mother Nicky (Andy Osho).
In fact, among the topics dealt with in the series, Nunn highlights “the idea of failure, identity and acceptance, which go hand in hand with mental health”. It is something that is going to be seen through several of the characters and one of them will undoubtedly be Cal, who we will get to know better about his internal struggles and how he deals with the issue of identity with his family.
New additions
As we already knew, Dan Levy joined the cast to play the writer Thomas Molloy and Maeve’s new tutor in her Literature course in the United States. Additionally, Lisa McGrillis will play Joanna, Jean’s little sister.
Also as we have said we will meet Thadea Graham (‘Doctor Who’) in the role of O, the sex therapist of the new school whose character will serve as the starting point of his opponent Otis’s journey. Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa play the trans power couple formed by Abbi and Roman that make up the popular group of the new school known as ‘Aquelarre’, which, contrary to what is usual, is open, generous and promotes kindness. Marie Reuther (‘Kamikaze’) and Alexandra James, Reda Elazouar, Bella Maclean and Imani Yahshua also join the cast to interpret new companions of the protagonists.
